Background
Platform for online courses for youth
Mindhelper-skolen.dk was developed to offer young people in Denmark a self-guided online program to work on their mental health over time.
The platform is part of Mindhelper’s effort to provide young people with self-help tools that go beyond quick tips—offering deep, structured methods for managing issues like anxiety.
It began as a pilot project testing the impact of open-access self-help programs. Evaluation showed strong results: 95% of users found the content useful and participants experienced an average reduction of over 13% in anxiety symptoms. A user experience survey also showed that 61% found the site very user-friendly, and it received praise for its simple and intuitive design.
My role in the project
UI Design, usability, and technical development of the platform.
As the person responsible for both design and development, I played a broad role: interaction design, the full UI, frontend development using Nunjucks and TailwindCSS, and setting up the backend with the 11ty static site generator. My goal was to ensure a smooth and user-friendly experience, even for users with low digital skills.
Technical setup
- 11ty The site is built as a static site with 11ty SSG. Content is fetched via APIs from Headless WordPress, Vimeo, and similar services.
- TailwindCSS Styling is written directly in the components using TailwindCSS.
- JavaScript The setup minimizes JavaScript in the frontend, as data processing happens during build time.
Frontend development
I implemented a responsive, mobile-first design that works smoothly on all devices. The code is modular for easy maintenance and scalability, and the navigation is optimized to reduce distractions and focus on the course content.
Static site generator & headless backend
Using 11ty, the site is statically generated for lightning-fast load times. We kept complexity low with Rollup bundling and optimized for efficient delivery of content.
Hosting & CI/CD integration
I set up a CI/CD pipeline via Netlify that automatically builds and deploys the site with each Git update. Cookieless tracking via Plausible.io was added to monitor content performance without compromising user privacy.
So… does it actually work?
Yes. The results speak for themselves. In the program evaluation, 92% of participants said the experience was good or excellent. 95% found the video content helpful, and there was a 13% average drop in anxiety symptoms. The platform clearly helps young people manage their mental health challenges.
The simple and intuitive design also contributed to a positive user experience—most users found the site easy to navigate.
